Fees & Rebates
GP Referral
Our national peak body, the Australian Psychological Society (APS), recommends a fee of $300 for a 50-minute session. We have set our fees well under these recommendations to make them more affordable.
Please note, all fee prices listed are for a standard 50-minute session. Longer session times can be requested or may be recommended for certain treatment types (e.g., EMDR) and will incur a higher fee. As of 1-Jul-2024, the Medicare rebate for a Clinical Psychologist is $141.85. Our fee as of 1-Jul-2024:
Initial consultation: $260. Out-of-pocket after rebate $118.15
Full fee: $245. Out-of-pocket after rebate: $103.15
Lower fees may be available depending on your circumstances (e.g., full-time students and/or people valid concession card). Please contact us for more information on reduced rates.
Session fees are payable at the time of your appointment. To ensure convenience, we securely collect your card details and process invoices automatically through Halaxy, our client records management system. If you have a Mental Health Treatment Plan referral from a GP, we also handle your Medicare rebate. Please note that Medicare offers a maximum of 10 rebates per calendar year.
Private Pay
For private pay appointments, including third-party payers, the fees remain the same, but Medicare rebates are not applicable. However, certain private health insurers may offer rebates when you provide them with a receipt of payment. We recommend checking with your health fund to determine the specific coverage and rebate options available to you.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
We offer Therapy Supports as part of the NDIS program. The fees for these services are determined and reviewed annually by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) and are covered by your NDIS Plan, specifically the Improved Daily Living category. The current NDIS therapy rate for psychology sessions is $222.99 per session, and participants are not required to pay any additional cost or gap fee. We understand the importance of accessible and affordable services, and we are committed to supporting individuals under the NDIS program. Please reach out to us for further information or to schedule an appointment.
Missed appointments, reschedules & cancellations
Medicare rebated and private pay appointments
At River Psychology, our policy regarding missed appointments, reschedules, and cancellations aligns with the recommendations set by the (APS). This policy is crucial for the continued operation of our practice as a small business.
In the event that you are unable to attend your appointment, wish to reschedule, or need to cancel, we kindly ask for a minimum of 24 hours' notice. Failure to provide this notice will result in a charge of 100% of the usual fee. If notice is given within 48 hours, only 50% of the usual fee will be charged. It's important to note that Medicare does not provide rebates for missed appointments.
To avoid a fee, cancellations must be made with more than 48 hours notice and made within standard business hours (Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm). We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, and in certain circumstances the cancellation fee can be waived.
National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
Following the NDIS guidelines established by the Federal Government, we consider a late cancellation to be any notice provided less than 2 clear business days before the scheduled appointment. In the event of a late cancellation or a failure to attend the appointment, your NDIS Plan will be billed for the session fee corresponding to that appointment.
